Learning Together AV provides field trips coordinated by Joy Densford, the teacher for reading, journalism, and many more classes at LTAV. Considering LTAV is a homeschooling program, many would believe that things such as field trips wouldn't be accessible, as homeschooling programs don't often provide something like that.
That's exactly why Mrs. Densford started hosting these, in order to bring students together for adventures, as public schools do.
Mrs. Densford has hosted the following so far:
First, in the fall, was The Raven at the Palmdale Playhouse. The Raven was a one-man show where three poems written by the poet Edgar Allen Poe were performed by a man dressed just like him. “It was a very cool show. I liked how the man who performed was dressed as Edgar Allen Poe. And he read stories and poems, and my favorite was Annabel Lee,” explained Evelyn E.
In October, LTAV went to Tapia's Pumpkin Patch in Rosamond, which many families attended. The pumpkin patch had a maze, goats, a bouncy house, and more attractions, and everyone got a small, free pumpkin.
In January, LTAV then went to Captain Tony’s Pizza and Pasta. The children toured the restaurant, and everyone got to make a personal pizza. Not everyone could go due to space limitations, so they may go there again.
“For the future, possibly, I would like to host a trip to The Cube for ice skating in Valencia. Next, I hope to visit the animals at Barber Family Farm. Sometime in between, when it's a little warmer, I hope to bring the LTAV kids whale watching,” commented Joy Densford.
Field trips are an excellent way for students to connect outside of school and build community in ways not many homeschooled children can.
